Project Accountant
(Cost-Plus / GNP Mission Critical & Hyperscale Data Center Projects)

Summary
The Project Accountant supports the financial management of large-scale construction projects operating under Cost-Plus and GMP contract structures, with primary responsibility for accurate job cost accounting, cost control, and financial reporting. This role partners closely with Project Management and Operations to ensure all project costs are properly captured, coded, reconciled, and reported throughout the project lifecycle.
The position is focused on disciplined cost tracking, WIP reporting, and billing support for complex, high-dollar mission-critical projects, with an emphasis on accuracy, documentation, and compliance with contract and accounting requirements.
Essential Functions
Job Cost Accounting
- Maintain accurate job cost records for labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and indirect costs
- Ensure all costs are properly coded to jobs, cost codes, phases, and cost types in the ERP system
- Reconcile job cost detail to the general ledger and resolve posting discrepancies
- Review and validate cost allocations, accruals, and cost transfers
- Support month-end close activities related to project cost and WIP
Cost Control & Forecast Support
- Track actual costs against project budgets and GMP / not-to-exceed limits
- Assist with forecast-to-complete updates and variance analysis
- Identify cost overruns, unposted commitments, and potential exposure items
- Support change order cost tracking and budget revisions
Owner Billing & WIP
- Prepare cost-plus owner billings with supporting documentation
- Reconcile billed vs. incurred costs and track retainage
- Assist with WIP schedules and revenue recognition support
- Ensure billing and cost data align between ERP and project management systems
Systems & Documentation
- Maintain organized, audit-ready project cost files
- Support data integrity between ERP (e.g., Sage, Viewpoint, Intacct, NetSuite, Acumatica) and Procore or similar systems
- Assist with internal and external audit requests related to project costs
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in construction project accounting or job cost accounting
- Strong understanding of job cost structures, WIP, and cost-plus billing
- Experience with construction ERP systems and cost modules
- Solid Excel skills for reconciliations, cost analysis, and schedules
- High attention to detail and strong reconciliation discipline
- Ability to work closely with Project Managers and Operations teams
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Cost-Plus or GMP contracts
- Exposure to large commercial, industrial, or mission-critical projects
- Experience using Procore or similar project management platforms

Career Path
This role is designed as a development position within the Project Accounting group, with growth into Senior Project Accountant as project complexity, cost ownership, and financial leadership responsibilities increase.
Compu Dynamics Pay Range$75,000—$95,000 USD Compu Dynamics offers a comprehensive benefits package that supports the health, well-being, and growth of our team members.
